An Orca surfacing in the still waters of the Pacific Northwest. Cruising through the inside passage in British Columbia's temperate rainforest. Mainland is barely visible as the heavy layer of mist blends with the coastline.

“One thing better than photographing orcas, is photographing orcas in the fog. Their dark bodies contrasted with the glowing haze and the calm sea is perfection. All you have to do as a photographer is time it right. This shot was lucky. I was standing next to our skipper on our 24ft aluminum, and noticed this orca in the distance. I had to lean over the captain and, whilst apologizing, snap this shot through his starboard side window. I will never get tired of seeing the ocean's apex predator, for orca's are one of the most exciting animals to see in the wild.”
